The pony tail session

This is a painting of Elizabeth combing Madeline's hair. The painting was started last year and I almost destroyed it, it was driving me insane. The problem was that I didn't know how to interpret the whole scene and Madeline's figure was too big, I mean the canvas chosen was too big and Madeline initial photo was taken when she was two years old. I redid Madeline's face maybe 20 times at least, made her look older, and changed the colors of the dresses too, with flowers, no flowers, flowers again..and they say I know what I want!

ELIZABETH LADY OF LEBANON

oil on canvas , 24x30
It is a portrait of my daughter Elizabeth with the flowered patterned dress and background which can be seen in most of my paintings
In the back are shown some houses of Lebanon with the traditional Venitian arcades which can be seen in all the old homes of Lebanon where I spent 15 years of my life and went to college. We used to go in all those old villages and take pictures and measurements of the old houses for our architectural projects. This was before the civil war started in a Lebanon that was smiling and friendly to strangers. Elizabeth was born here. She is a first born immigrant in the Sawaf family. In her blood still runs the blood of a woman of syrian- lebanese descent
I would like to get commissions for portraits

A painting repainted

I did work again on Liz's portrait and now I am satisfied. After erasing that face 50 times and painting it all over again, it looks like Elizabeth ...this is how I learn, by redoing the same thing over and over till I like it.

Madeline

It was Maddy's birthday in August so when I came back from the Middle East I organized a birthday party at my house. Here is a painting of Madeline, my grandaughter who is 2 years old now.
